Mountain, Palm Springs, Santa Monica, the Brea Tar Pits, and Long
Beach. The trip will
involve moderately strenuous activity in the form of hiking and moving
across rough terrain for fieldwork. Overnight

Terrace offsets in Lone Pine Canyon (geomorphology and geologic evidence for faulting) Day 2: The San Andreas Fault: 1000 Palms (sag ponds, fluid flow around faults and dune migration). Tram up San Jacinto Mountain Day 3: Coastal exposures of deformation and reading the rock record Palos Verdes landslides (landslide mechanics and mitigation) Seacliff exposures in Long beach (reading the rock record ) Day 4: Urban earthquake geology Urbanization at the Hollywood fault (living with earthquakes) La Brea tar pits Day 5: Communicating ideas.
