Science teachers are invited to apply
for this special workshop to be held on the campus of Gallaudet University,
Monday - Saturday,
August 2-7,
2004. Workshop materials will be targeted for teachers
of high school students.
Deadline for applications is postmarked by
April
9, 2004. Teachers selected will be informed by the first of May. |
The workshop is designed for science teachers
who
-
are interested in participating in the
Clerc Center's SOAR-High Earth System Science Project for the 2004/2005
school year. (More about that here...)

or who teach, or plan to teach Earth Science,
physical science, or related areas
-
or just want to revitalize their science content
and activity ideas!
Note:
participation
in the SOAR-High ESS Project during the 2004/2005 SY is not required for
selection into this workshop. However, qualified teachers who are
interested in becoming part of the SOAR-High Project will receive
priority. |
SOAR-High students from

videoconference about a lab
that
both classes performed in science
class.

Students learn to us a
Sun Photometer
to measure how much water vapor
there
is in the atmosphere.
|
In this workshop teachers will learn strategies
used in the SOAR-High Project (using an online curriculum, using data in
the classroom, classroom to classroom collaborations), including involving
students in
-
Atmosphere studies such as visual cloud
observations and Sun Photometer data collection. (NASA CALIPSO mission)
-
Hydrosphere activities to involve students
in ocean current tracking
-
analyzing earthquakes and 3 dimensional fault
systems in Geosphere studies.
Fees for the 6 day workshop are fully supported
by a grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation. Teachers who
are selected to participate will receive dormatory rooms and board on the
campus of Gallaudet University, six days of instruction and
activities, and a $100 stipend. |
