The morning of the final day of the conference
began with GLOBE chief scientist Dixon Butler and other scientists reporting
on the results of GLOBE games at Nuuksio. Scientists, teachers
and students made observations about atmosphere, soil, water, vegetation
and weather. Overall the results indicated that nature in Nuuksio
is healthy, despite the park's closeness to the Helsinki city area. A copy
of the report would be sent to Nuuksia National Park staff. Here
Vinny, Durrell, and Tyrone say goodbye to Dr. Butler.
Saturday also included more concurrent sessions
for student presentations. GLOBE scientists attended all sessions
and encouraged students to share the results of their research and ask
each other scientific questions about their conclusions.
MSD/MSSD students bid a fond farewell to Ann
Hardison, PR Coordinator for the USA GLOBE Program in Washington, D.C.
All students attending the Conference received a GLOBE medallion
and a certificate signed by U.S. Vice President, Al Gore who initially
began the GLOBE program.

In the great Congress Hall at Paasitorni, many
goodbyes were said, as addresses and e-mail addresses were exchanged, and
promises of continued contacts were made between students from many different
countries.
Tyrone, Durrell and Vinny thank Heikki Hirvonen, GLOBE Finnish country coordinator and director for the conference, for making the GLOBE Learning Expedition to Helsinki a truly unique and rememorable experience for all.
Departing Helsinki on a VERY early train
Sunday morning, Tyrone, Durrell, and Jerry
went on a dream-come-true adventure, joining other GLE participants on a
trip to St. Petersburg, Russia. Here they are in the Summer Garden
at the Summer Palace of Peter the Great.
