Gallaudet GLOBE Science Activities
Spring Budburst Study

Hello GLOBE Students!

The GLOBE Program is conducting an interesting study in the early springtime and we urge you all to join in.  The study is called Bud burst Phenology.   The Gallaudet GLOBE Partner teachers will also be interested in your data, and will help deaf and hard of hearing students share their results.   Check back here at this web page frequently and learn what other students are doing!

What is Phenology?  What is Budburst?
Budburst is an example of a phenological cycle. The timing of budburst is influenced by temperature or moisture. Its detection can be used to examine regional and global vegetation patterns, interannual variation, and vegetation responses to climate change. Students will observe when budburst occurs on selected trees.

How to do the Budburst Study
We encourage you to follow the Phenology protocol exactly as GLOBE describes it.  Then see below for
how we will share your results with other participating deaf and hard of hearing students.

For a description of the GLOBE Budburst Protocol click here (pdf format). For html click here.
Here is a GLOBE worksheet for doing the study.

GLOBE has created an interesting Learning Activity which you want to do after budburst happens.

Ideas for Sharing your Results
First let us know if you plan to do the Phenology Study.  We will list your school (below) with other participating schools.
