Our hypotheses were not correct. The Weather Service forecasts were wrong for lower than normal temperatures in Jackson, with the temperature showing a net increase for the three months studied of 2.5 degrees Celsius. The forecasts were correct for higher than normal precipitation in Jackson, Mississippi, USA, with a net increase of 125.73 mm. The forecasts of warmer than normal temperatures for the Northeastern part of the United States were correct. Pittsburgh experienced the warmest winter since 1949-50 and tied for the 8th warmest winter ever. Washington, D.C. experienced a much warmer winter than predicted.

We recorded a major phenomenon of snowfall of 127 mm in December. The last significant December snowfall in Jackson, Mississippi, USA was in 1929, 67 years ago. We did not see a marked change in weather patterns for Jackson during the El Nino years of 1986-1987, 1991-1992, 1993-1994.
