CONCLUSIONS

In this project we investigated the USA weather services'
predictions that:
Jackson, Mississippi, USA will have
lower than normal temperatures and
higher than normal precipitation due to El Nino for the winter of 1997/98.
and Washington, D.C., USA will have
higher than normal temperatures and normal precipitation due to El Nino
for the winter of 1997/98.
Our Results generally support this
hypothesis, but not completely:
- Jackson, Mississippi was warmer, not
cooler as the weather
service predicted.
- Jackson, MS had higher than normal
precipitation, as predicted.
- After analyzing data for Dec., Jan., and Feb. for the last ten years,
it does not seem that Jackson, Mississippi, USA has been overly affected
by El Ninos (up until this year).
- In Washington, D.C., January was warm and wet compared to normal, much
wetter than predicted last October.
- Washington and the Northeastern USA did have higher
than
normal temperatures, as predicted.
- Washington's weather was definitely affected by El Nino this year,
with warmer temperatures and more precipitation, but it seems like past El
Ninos have not had much affect, or they've had a cooling effect on this
region.
