Gallaudet University and the Laurent Clerc Center invite science and
math teachers to a GLOBE Teacher Training to be held on the Gallaudet campus
July
26-31, 2004. The training will be conducted by GLOBE trainers
H. David Snyder, Ph.D., and Mary S. Ellsworth, with assistance from the
esteemed Elissa Levine, Ph.D., GLOBE Scientist and Soils Scientist,
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
The GLOBE Program is a hands-on environmental science and education
program that unites students, educators, and scientists from around the
world in studying the global environment.
| The workshop will train teachers of the deaf to do the GLOBE measurements
with their students, use GLOBE images in the classroom, integrate science
activities from the GLOBE on-line curriculum, and create partnerships among
students at GLOBE schools around the world.
Teachers of the Deaf from more than 50 schools have trained at Gallaudet.
Over 10,000 schools in more than 95 countries are participating in the
GLOBE Program. |

What do GLOBE students do? GLOBE students....

make a core set of environmental observations at or near their school,
-
report their data via the Internet to a GLOBE data processing facility,
-
learn to use global images created from worldwide GLOBE school data,
and
-
study environmental topics in their classrooms.
-
reported over one million science observations (atmosphere, hydrology,
land cover, and soils.
The cost for the 4.5-day training workshop is $100 per teacher. Teams of
teachers are encouraged to attend together. Past participants are welcome
to attend a second time and refresh their skills. The Gallaudet University/Clerc
Center GLOBE Teacher Training Center provides food and housing for participating
teachers of the deaf through funds from the D.C. Space Grant Consortium.
